Good
Monday Mornin!
“In
the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and
exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple”. Isaiah 6:1
Uzziah
was a great king. He was one of the greatest kings that
Israel
had known during this time. Some also believe that he was Isaiah’s
uncle. He became king when he was sixteen and reigned for fifty two years
according to 2 Chronicles 26. He would have captured the hearts of the
people, would have been seen as the savior in a lot of ways, and then he
dies. Dies with leprosy, a horrid death to be sure, and Isaiah’s heart
would have been broken.
It
is no coincidence that Isaiah is in the temple. He was probably there
mourning the loss of King Uzziah. He may have been crying, or he may have
been praying, but whatever he was doing the Real King wanted to show him
something.
Look at a few things with me. . .
I.
Once
Isaiah came to a place of pain He looked to God. When September 11th
happened churches and other places of worship were overwhelmed. When
Katrina hit
New Orleans
, people from all denominations and religions came together to pray. It
seems that when great catastrophe happens, we immediately are driven to
our knees and look for the only One who can explain, or make explainable
the pain that we experience. And this happens on a smaller level as well,
when we have catastrophe come through our lives we almost always turn to
God for answers. But I think God is showing us something much bigger than
answers. . .
II.
God
showed Him that He belonged on the throne. The one thing that God wants is
supremacy in our lives. God wants to show us that He is on the throne and
bigger than anything else that can come through our lives. Sometimes God
does not deliver answers, and that is His prerogative, sometimes He just
wants us to know that He is on the throne, and He is much bigger than
anything that comes our way.
III.
God
showed Him that He is bigger than anything else in Isaiah’s life. In
Isaiah’s mind there could be nothing bigger or more grand than the
temple, and yet God comes in and the train of His robe fills it! God wants
to show us that He is greater than the greatest thing we can imagine on
this earth. God is bigger than a church, bigger than religion and bigger
than any task that is set before you and I!
When
we, as Christians, experience pain to the depth of our soul that cannot be
comprehended, we immediately want to turn to God. And it is in those times
of pain that cannot be described that God shows Himself to us. You see
sometimes God allows pain in our lives so that we can see Him for who He
truly is. And sometimes God has to get things out of our lives so that we
can put Him where He belongs.
I pass a church marquee every day that says, “The task ahead of us
is not as great as the Power behind us”. Those, my friends, are great
words to live by!
I love you all, have a great week!

But
we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who
believe and are saved.
